Assuring Grace

In a time of political correctness, when people are afraid to point out what is wrong, adhering to certain scriptures will be more challenging. People like Nathan, Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, John the Baptist, and Paul, to mention but a few, will be on the decrease.

With the rise of “I don’t judge you” and “Just love” preachers, many will head to hell even when a simple correction can save their lives. The Bible made it clear that in the last days, people shall be lovers of themselves 2 Timothy 3:2. We are in the “Let me do as I am persuaded” era. Yet, the person is glaringly making a huge mistake.

David was persuaded to take Bathsheba. He went for her and took away all obstacles. His sense of reasoning jumped off the cliff as long as that unlawful craving was there. He committed a double sin, adultery and murder. 2 Samuel 11.

He was the King and should not be approached or confronted. Nathan should have kept praying until God opened his beloved David’s eyes, or complained and murmured about David’s Sin without telling him. Should Nathan have been more concerned about being told, “You don’t love” than telling David the truth?

Something took over David. He was not in a good place. He was a man after God’s heart and a covenant King. David had fought for Israel, conquered kings and kingdoms and brought fame to Israel. He went into sin. The question is, “Should he not have been loved enough to be told the truth that sets free?”

It would be wicked not to help a man who helped keep a generation alive. David did so much good and made sacrifices, and should be rewarded. It is time for him to die, but not under the watch of a true lover, Nathan. David must be told the truth to be saved. He must be rescued to show appreciation for his sacrifice and the risks he took on behalf of the people. This is true love.

Nathan got the message and took the journey to David. He braved it with applied wisdom but didn’t sugarcoat the truth. He spoke in proverbial language, and when he got David, he nailed it. “You took somebody’s wife and killed the person”. David’s eyes opened, and he wept in dust and ashes. He repented and was saved. 2 Samuel 12:7-15

Imagine Nathan as a modern-day preacher or Prophet who denies people the truth. David would have gone. We need more like Nathan.

Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Ezekiel 3:20 (KJV)

There are many reasons people like Nathan are no longer. It may be for fear of man, cowardice covered with spirituality, men-pleasers, when the preaching on love serves as condoling or covering sin, when people have compromised themselves and want to keep the crowd, direct disobedience to God’s word, false preachers, or to fit well in society, and the preacher does not know right or wrong.

Spiritual insensitivity is on the rampage now. Complimenting absurdity is spiritual blindness and poor perception. Some are not telling the truth because they want to keep it back; the issue is that they can’t see what is going on, which is dangerous. We are in the days when iniquity abounds.

We need preachers who have the love of Christ to tell Peter that Satan hath desired to have him, that he may sift him as wheat, Luke 22:31 (KJV)

We need the likes of Paul, who asked the Galatian church, who had bewitched them, that they should not obey the truth. Galatians 3:1 (KJV)

We need the likes of John the Baptist, who told Herod of his evils and not to take his brother’s wife. Luke 3:19 (KJV)

We need the Elijahs, who will tell Ahab that he and his father’s house had troubled Israel by forsaking God’s commandment and serving Baal. 1 Kings 18:17-18 (KJV)

We need the Jeremiahs who will not look at the faces but tell it as it is. Jeremiah 1:8

We need men with John’s love to tell us: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 (KJV)

Telling people the truth is love, and guiding them away from hell is love. If these men should resurface, should our attitude be like that of Jeroboam, Ahab, Balaam, Herod and others who hated to be told the truth? Should we be like David, Peter, Nehemiah, Abimelech and repent?

Pride is one reason people do not take correction. Strive is another, ignorance, and pressure to show off or conform to please people. People heading for success at all costs will not accept correction.

It is easier to correct humble and teachable people. Those who are not afraid of failure take corrections. Achievers take corrections. Positive influencers take corrections. World changers are not averse to truth.

Truth is sweet, pure, reliable, liberating and life-saving. Let’s embrace the truth. It is a true friend.
