Assuring Grace

We have seen and are sobered by the harsh reality that we are in a spaceship, lest anyone be more confident than they should be. It was no coincidence that the Moon flyby mission happened at Easter, to put the world in fear and bewilderment.

The astronauts of Artemis 11 hazarded their lives on behalf of humanity and to dispel any doubt about the existence of God Almighty, the creator of Heaven and Earth, Great and Marvellous, powerful, excellent, and the only Potentate. His wisdom and greatness are beyond searching.

They went, and the world watched in a tense, ten-day period of mixed emotions and fears. They are humans. They saw the indescribable; they lacked the words; they were filled with emotion. There were tears, joy, moments of fear, uncertainty, risk, tension, and prayers. We thought of their families and their brevity. We remained in awe.

Someone asked me during that period about the meaning of the word “firmament” in Genesis chapter one. I asked her if she had been following the NASA updates on the astronauts, and she said, “Indescribable and frightening”.

Well, this is nothing yet. The crew went as far as no human had ever gone and back. There are billions and trillions of miles to the east, west, north, and south beyond that.

Another question was asked, “Does the phrase outer darkness exist and is it written in the Bible?” Well, again, I asked, “Have you been following the astronauts as they travel?” She answered, “I can’t imagine that they are doing that; they may not come back”. They did return and are now telling their stories. Hopefully, the world will hear.

While they travelled:

Isaiah 40 (KJV) echoed in the atmosphere throughout the period of their mission. To whom then will ye liken God? Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: that bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

Genesis 1 was resounded in clarity: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Job 38: 4-6 (KJV) also came alive: Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof.

We heard the drums of Nehemiah 9:6 (KJV): Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

The rhythms of Job 11:7-9 (KJV) were on autoplay: Canst thou by searching find out God? Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? Deeper than hell; what canst thou know? The measure thereof is longer than the earth, And broader than the sea.

The gulf between Abraham, Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16 was watched live. The outer darkness is real; the red-burning planets are real.

We heard clearly Psalm 33:6 (KJV): By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

John 1:3 (KJV) resounded in power: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Colossians 1:16 (KJV) rippled through our being: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

The dread of what John the Apostle saw in the Book of Revelation replayed live.

In awe, we confessed Acts 17:24 (KJV): God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and Earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands.

Key takeaway for the world and all that dwells therein:

  • God allowed the journey to be a preparation for the remnants, both those saved and those who came into the Kingdom through the dread and fear of the mission.
  • They reminded us that we, too, are in a spaceship called Earth, rolling in the outer darkness with no beam or support.
  • There is an outer darkness that is bottomless.
  • We are blessed and loved to have our spaceship protected, but anything could happen to it at any time, and that would be the end.
  • The being of a man cannot describe creation. They lacked words, and that was understandable. By searching, can a man find God? Our earthly language is meant to describe the earth and nothing beyond it.
  • Yes! They went, they returned, and no one is without excuse anymore.
  • They bonded as one in the face of uncertainty. Can the world be in unity, instead of wars and rumours of war, seeing that we are also travelling in uncertainty?
  • It is a great wake-up call to Christians who are playing games with their faith, as our flight could be at any moment.
  • It reminded me of the words of our Lord Jesus in Matthew 21:31, that publicans and harlots will enter the Kingdom before the religious. Many Christians didn’t know about this mission and are still living carelessly. Meanwhile, many who did not believe turned to God during the period, including the crew, as they confessed.
  • Those who are saved in Christ Jesus are to hold on firmly to the confessions of their faith.
  • We learned and are still in deep reflection as our being lacked words.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:4 (KJV)
