Assuring Grace

Making choices is part of our everyday life. We've made fantastic choices and horrible ones. What I deem a right choice may be wrong to you depending on culture, location and experience. Choice can be as simple as picking a menu item at a restaurant or as hard as turning your back on a loved one. Choices produces two feeling, satisfaction or dissatisfaction.

Have you ever laughed at some choices you made when you were young that looked perfect then, but with maturity you found out they were crazy? So, whatever your choices are, there are some that you can never go wrong with. An example is the one Mary made in Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Not everyone will get it right the first time, as with those who sat at Jesus' feet to hear his word. There are lots of distractions and pressures around us in our present world. Conflicting priorities are screaming at our faces, but the worst is the deception that is the order of the day in every sphere of life. Days are gone when people read things at face value. In our 21st century everyone is looking for the fire underneath the smoke. It's a world where bad looks good, justice is perverted, morality is thrown down the drains, decency assumed to be obsolete and children are exposed to indecent lifestyles. Mary made the main thing, the main thing. She chose the deeper life:

  • To delight herself in the Lord. Psalms 1: 2.
  • Building her life on the Rock. Luke 6:48.
  • To comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:18-19.

Mary knew His words are Him and in Him is all fullness. Jesus has the word of eternal life; all wisdom belongs to Him.

As for Martha, it is about busyness and cares. Going for the essentials of is a choice, it may not be rational in people's thinking but following Jesus is the best decision in life. I made it 34 years ago and will make it again till the end of my life. What would I have done without Jesus? He is the way, the truth and life. He saved me from sin and sorrow, with Him all things are possible. No wonder Joshua asked the children of Israel to choose this day whom they shall serve; as for him and his house, they will serve the Lord. Ruth told Naomi not to entreat herto go back, Moses chose to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of Egypt for a while. The three Hebrew children chose to be thrown into fire than to bow to an idol.

Do not allow anyone to stop you from the right choice, not even family, friends, or colleagues. Mary did not allow things around her to confuse her, she made the right choice. Make the right choice for Jesus.
