Assuring Grace

It is becoming more challenging to live the everyday Christian life. The worldly system is set up on a one-way route heading to hell. Anyone travelling on the road has no other destination but to land in hell. Reversing on that lane will be met with strong resistance; the person may not go far, and the flow of millions will push him back.

Let’s pick out a few instances.

Fashion- You are forced to buy what the designers have put on the market. You go from one shop to another looking for decent dresses, but they are hard to find. I saw a beautiful gown in a shop and went for it, but to my disappointment, the fabric was slit down from the neck to the middle of the chest. What is the need, then? Another one was slit down from the middle of the thigh. Haba! What is going on? It is fashion! The majority want it, so you either get with it or stick to your old dresses. Some Christians say, “But that is what is in the market. I had to buy it”, “It isn’t that bad, and it is not written in the Bible that we should not wear it”, or “There is nothing we can do, that’s all you find”. Compromise!

The enticement is daring - everyone is shopping from that centre with the excitement of new arrivals, and you are left out to feel weird.

The systems do not support righteousness and are inherently set towards the wrong. Every ‘good’ thing done in that lane definitely heads to the left. Where a system is dedicated to idols, you work in the presence of idols, and the proceeds are devoted to idols.

Fashion stores foster immoral lives, whether you are selling, folding away on the shop floor, standing at the door, or typing away in the finance department. They foster iniquity.

When a company's mission and vision are set on annihilating the poor, everything done in that organisation will point to the achievement of that mission statement.

When the Ideal is fascism, capitalism, socialism, communism and whatever names they are called, everything flows in that direction. The school system, hospitals, parastatals, NGOs and private enterprises all work towards that goal.

My daughter reached the final stage of an interview and travelled to this exciting international firm. We then realised that the global business that makes the big money is their alcohol department. They sell a particularly expensive brand which is supplied with all the pomp and pageantries to high places. Although she was going for a Project Manager’s role, she will project-manage the services and deliveries of these wines and also do the accounts. We said “No”. Whether you buy, sell, produce, oversee delivery or count the money from it, it is all the same.

The pleasure on the internet, theatres, and film houses contradict our faith and are not for us. The shows and festivals are lewd and satanic.

Information systems reprogramme the mind against truth and peace. Misinformation becomes the order of the day. The ads and music vex the soul.

Looks and hairstyles seen as crazy outlooks have become a fashion.

You kiss the ring of the big man if you want to be rich. You break protocol and do dodgy things to get to the top. You tell lies to get a promotion.

The school system- well, you can tell more about it. Young minds are being drawn away from the truth. We could carry on as usual, but what should our attitude really be?

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 1 Thessalonians 5:5-10

  •   First, mind the route you enter. Look at the signs well before driving off; it might be difficult to reverse.
  •   Be conscious of who we are.
  •   Pray without ceasing, and read your Bible as a guide for the day. They are the only Spiritual SatNav.
  •   Watch as you go. There are social and spiritual potholes, nails, dog poo, spit, bicycles, cars and dangers on the way. Be careful to avoid them.
  •   Guard your heart with all diligence. Do not get carried away by what you hear and see. All that glitters is not gold.
  •   Abstain from all appearances of evil. Ask the Lord for grace.
  •   Glorify the Lord at all times. This will help you to be content. And avoid the lures of greed and want.
  •   Do not sit in the seat of the scornful. Avoid negative people. They will stain your white clothes.
  •   Do not defile yourself with the portion of the king’s meat. It doesn’t matter how dainty and attractive it seems. Things dedicated to idols are meant to draw you into worship. It could be celebrities, trendy things, flashy cars, top destinations and looking cool. Take yourself away from them.
  •   Keep yourself pure. You are a Royal Priesthood, a holy generation and a peculiar person. Carry yourself with dignity. Go away from base things and keep your head above the waters.
  •  Be resolute like the three Hebrew children. There is strength in you to say no to bad behaviours. If anyone will not go to heaven with you, don’t go to hell with them.
