The influence of the Majority

The choice of the majority affects decisions, productivity, and the outcome of most things. The pattern of the majority also influences our market both in production, style, fashion, and perception. The phrase “What others are doing” is our everyday language and non-conformity puts one in a lone cave. We all want to do what others are doing in order not to be seen as being weird.

In Exodus 32: 22-24 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

It was the decision of the majority to have a god made from their gold. The pressure was on Aaron, and since it was the majorities’ decision, Aaron did. He knew it was wrong, he knew he shouldn’t do it, but that is what the people wanted. Some people are living in regret and defeat because they have followed the majority.

In this pandemic, there have been decisions made that are contrary to the scientists’ opinions. They knew what to do and who to heed to, but the influence of the people because they still need their vote, had made them allow what they should not have at the detriment of the same people. In fashion, we all know what is decent, but because the majority are doing it, we don’t want to be left out. Popular phrases like “Campus life”, “Student’s life”, “The teenager”, “The dudes” and a host of other phrases depict what the majority are known for.

Many have lost their identity or never knew it at all because they have lived for others. It can start very early in life, as some parents dress and fashion their children according to the influence of the majority. These children grow up not discovering themselves, as they are clones of others. Many lost their natural talent, gifts, personality, and even looks because of the influence of the majority. Some people don’t even know their natural steps and walk, as they have walked in a certain way from childhood. Some can’t recognise their faces and accept them because they have painted their faces all their life.

It is sad that the destinies of people have been hijacked by the influence of the majority. Everyone is going on holiday to a particular destination. You go without asking questions, everyone is buying a particular car you buy without consideration, a particular career is more popular, you go into it without checking. The media and advertisement had not made it easier in the modern world.

Many have not accepted the love of God today, because the majority around them do not believe God exists. Many Christians are not committed or living a Holy life because most Christians they know are not committed.

We should not allow the influence of the majority to mar our purpose in life. Strength and prowess have been dissipated in life for the quest to do it as others. A lot have lived an unfulfilled life, goodness stolen from them, for following the majority. It is all about common sense. We are all individuals with a mind and will. It is still up to people to reject or acknowledge God. People have a choice to follow their hearts, like Joshua.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

This is a statement of purpose. Joshua stood on his convictions and will not allow others to influence him. The surest way to stand strong is to allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you.

Roman 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Obedience to the word of God and submission to his will is the only way to avoid the snare of this clone. Don’t rip your life apart because of the influence of the majority.

We have to be steadfast and unmovable. Christ has set us free from being a slave to sin and the world. If the people will not go to heaven with you, don’t go to hell with them. It is sad how Satan had taken away people’s liberty and suggested to them his chains. You can break loose today and stand for the salvation of your soul through our Lord Jesus Christ. Reject sin, get your freedom, and enjoy eternal bliss which The Lord has promised to all that love Him.
